Together with its founder, SW&D understands the Political science as a partner of democracy<\/strong>. Accordingly, it promotes political science research that contributes to overcoming the practical and normative challenges of democratic systems. The Foundation concentrates on two central topics that are of particular importance for the understanding and further development of democratic systems: democracy research with a focus on Parliamentarism<\/strong> and the Foreign and security policy<\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Foundation does not view these areas in isolation, but places particular emphasis on identifying their intersections and interactions. This is because a deeper understanding of the links between parliamentary representation, democratic decision-making and security policy challenges is crucial in order to develop sustainable strategies for the future. In times of the growing spread of autocratic forms of government, SW&D is committed to ensuring that democratic principles and values are preserved and strengthened.<\/p>

Irrespective of the independent communication of the scientists and editors in the individual institutions and work areas of SW&D, it is a central concern of the foundation to make science accessible and understandable for a broad public. With the pw-portal<\/strong><\/a>the SIRIUS magazine<\/strong><\/a> and the diverse Programme of events<\/strong><\/a> the Foundation has powerful science communication tools at its disposal. These promote dialogue between research and practice and build bridges between science, politics and society.<\/p>

SW&D has appointed a central contact person for its science communication in order to bundle and strategically develop the various activities.
