However, following Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the emerging critical situation in East Asia, the supply of energy and raw materials as well as the protection of critical infrastructure need to be reconsidered. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.degruyter.com\/journal\/key\/sirius\/html#latestIssue\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>current issue of SIRIUS<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0now addresses the vulnerability of critical infrastructure and the dependence of Germany and other nations on external resources such as energy or raw materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Frank Umbach<\/strong>&nbsp;in his essay&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.degruyter.com\/document\/doi\/10.1515\/sirius-2023-2002\/html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>\"Energy security under the conditions of the decarbonisation of the economy and transport\"<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/a>critically examines the expectation that the decarbonisation of the economy, transport and other energy consumption will lead to a decrease in geostrategically relevant dependencies.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The article&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.degruyter.com\/document\/doi\/10.1515\/sirius-2023-2003\/html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>\"An EU commodity agency - a useful instrument for European commodity security?\"<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;from&nbsp;<strong>Jakob Kullik<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Jens Gutzmer<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Ludwig Gramlich<\/strong>&nbsp;is intended as an open impulse and hypothetical preliminary consideration in the current debate on Europe's multiple raw material challenges and addresses the problem of critical raw materials raised by Frank Umbach.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The contribution&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.degruyter.com\/document\/doi\/10.1515\/sirius-2023-2004\/html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>\"Toxic door openers - smart ports as a geo-economic field of action\"<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;from&nbsp;<strong>Heiko Borchert<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Tim R\u00fchlig<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Valentin Weber<\/strong>&nbsp;is developing a German smart ports approach in a 5-point plan in order to actively shape this dynamic field of action for the modernisation and digitalisation of overseas ports as critical infrastructure under conditions of geopolitical rivalries.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The contribution&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.degruyter.com\/document\/doi\/10.1515\/sirius-2023-2005\/html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>\"The protection of maritime critical infrastructure and the concept of deterrence\"<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/a>from<strong>&nbsp;Julian Pawlak<\/strong>&nbsp;deals with the protection of maritime critical infrastructure and shows possible solutions.
