Since the war in Ukraine and the proclaimed "turning point", public demand for political science expertise has risen sharply. However, talking about war and peace in political science cannot be reduced to the security policy dimension, but also raises ethical, theoretical and discursive questions. What is the social role of the discipline in times of war? What about the quality of science communication? What is the understanding of roles in each case? Where are there blind spots, for example in the extent of expressions of solidarity & visibility between the Ukraine and Gaza wars from the ranks of political science? And is the diversity of the discipline adequately reflected in its media communication? With the blog symposium "Political science self-reflections in times of war" the pw-portal offers a platform for controversial debates within the discipline that shed light on these issues.
The programme kicks off with contributions from Hendrik Simon, Alexander Libman, Claudia Brunner, Sabine Jaberg and David Kirchner. Further contributions to the debate will follow.
