As one of the four organisers, the Foundation for Science and Democracy invites you to the XXIX Theodor Litt Symposium in Leipzig on 2 December.
Party democracy is in a phase of profound upheaval. A loss of trust, falling membership figures and the rise of populist and extremist movements give rise to talk of a crisis in representative democracy. Talk of a crisis is not new. Rather, it can be seen as part of a transformation process that needs to be shaped in such a way that democratic principles such as representation, participation and pluralism are preserved and further developed.
The aim of the XXIX Theodor Litt Symposium is to promote a well-founded, interdisciplinary exchange on the state, challenges and development opportunities of party democracy and to develop concrete impulses for education and participation formats that strengthen democracy under the key question "How can a contemporary and sustainable party democracy be shaped - and what role does political education play in this process?".
